Our Dry Tortugas National Park custom illustration portrays the beauty of Fort Jefferson and its surrounding coastline. The Dry Tortugas were discovered by Ponce de Leon in 1513 and named for its abundance of sea turtles. The park is home to Fort Jefferson, a fortress used during the Civil War. Fun fact: Dr. Samuel Mudd - the doctor who treated John Wilkes Booth after Lincoln's assassination - was arrested and sent to Fort Jefferson. He was released four years later due to his heroic efforts to heal those afflicted by a yellow fever epidemic.
